You probably signed up for Bumper because you wanted more insight into your car, perhaps your vehicle's market value or other aspects of your vehicle's history. Or maybe you were trying to get help estimating how much car repairs or maintenance would cost. There comes a time, though, when your subscription only takes you so far.

If you no longer want to use the service, it is possible to cancel your Bumper subscription. You have several options to do so, including through the app, by calling customer service or via email. Learn more about how to cancel your Bumper subscription efficiently so you can move on to other equally important tasks.

What Is Bumper?

Bumper is a service that helps you with managing and selling your car. Members can use the online dashboard or app to access features like getting an appraisal on their car's current market value, vehicle history reports and other tools.

Bumper even offers features to help you research when purchasing your next car and shop around for car insurance to help you get the best policy for your needs. Their marketplace section has listings from over 50,000 dealerships, and you can even set up real-time alerts to notify you of any updates of cars you’re interested in buying.

You’ll need to become a member of Bumper to access their services. You can choose from two tiers: Casual or Plus. The Casual tier costs less and gives you search results, full online access to Bumper and up to 50 vehicle reports per month. The difference with the Plus tier is the ability to get offline access. You'll be able to access PDF downloads so you can download and print them whenever you want. That way, if you want to be able to read them offline, you can.

For all tiers, you can look up local mechanics and auto repair and maintenance services, plus access discounts only available for members.

Reports you can access include:

  • Standard vehicle data: Information you can look up for cars includes the license plate, make, model and VIN (vehicle identification number). You can also get insight into other specific information such as vehicle specifications, title checks and equipment details.
  • Historical records: You can get records on accidents, salvage and theft of a vehicle for over 32 states. You can use this data to help you make an informed decision on whether you want you to purchase a vehicle you are interested in.
  • Market values: You can search for current market value of cars you want to purchase to help you figure out what's in your budget. You can also look up the ownership history to see how many have previously owned the car.
  • Alerts on vehicles: You can save data from different cars and get notifications as soon as there's new data available.

Each tier offers a 7-day trial at a heavily discounted rate to see if you feel it’s worth it to sign up for a membership. If you do, you can pay monthly or quarterly afterwards until you decide to cancel your Bumper subscription.

Steps To Cancel Bumper Subscription

Just because you decide to become a member of Bumper, doesn’t necessarily mean you want to be one forever. Learn how to cancel your Bumper account through the following steps.

1. Gather Necessary Information

To make the cancellation process as smooth as possible, you'll want to get all of the necessary information ready. Bumper recommends you have your member identification number on hand. You can find this 9-digit number on your new member welcome email, or on the right side of the screen of your online dashboard after logging in.

2. Log Into Your Bumper Account

You can head to the Bumper website and log in using your email address and password. You can also log into the Bumper app using the same information. If you prefer, you can choose to log in by having Bumper send a one-time login link.

How this works is that once you click on the appropriate link on the login page, you will enter the email address associated with your Bumper membership. Then, log into your email account and click on the link Bumper emails you.

The login page on both the website and app will also let you reset your password if you forgot what it is, or help you find out what email address is associated with your account.

3. Choose ‘Contact Us’

Once you’ve successfully logged in, you can scroll down to the bottom or footer of the page. There, you can choose “Contact Us” to head to the appropriate page.

4. Select ‘Cancel My Subscription’

On the “Contact Us” page, you will see several options. You will need to choose the “Cancel My Subscription” option in order to proceed with canceling your Bumper subscription.

5. Confirm Your Cancellation

It is important to confirm that you’ve successfully canceled your Bumper subscription. Follow the prompts after selecting the option to cancel your subscription to confirm you want to make this choice. Once you’ve confirmed you want to cancel, you should receive an email from Bumper that your subscription will be terminated.

Even if Bumper confirms your canceled subscription, you can still take additional steps to ensure it’s canceled. Regularly monitor your bank account or credit card transactions to see that there are no additional charges from Bumper. If you see any charges, you will need to contact Bumper to address them. In the meantime, you can also contact your bank or credit card company for help on how you can address these charges.

Other Ways To Cancel Your Bumper Subscription

Logging into your account online or through the app isn’t the only way you can cancel your Bumper subscription. You can choose from five alternatives:

  • Live chat: You can log into your account and find the live chat function in order to chat with one of Bumper’s customer representatives. The company also has their own dedicated live chat page. Once you enter the live chat, you can click on “Cancel My Account” to start the cancellation process. You will most likely need to confirm your identity and account information to proceed. Bumper’s live chat feature is available 24/7.
  • Submit a request through their contact form: Bumper has a contact form located on their website, or you can log into your account to find it. You will first select the reason you're contacting Bumper (in this case, to cancel your account), our name, contact information (phone and email), your member ID and a relevant message.
  • Call customer support: You can call customer service representatives anytime from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET. When calling, have your member ID ready and any information you may need to identify yourself when canceling your Bumper account. Even though you’re canceling over the phone, you can still ask for an email confirmation that you’re no longer a paying member.
  • Email customer support: Bumper also allows you to email their customer support representatives at support@bumper.com. In your email, make sure to clearly state why you’re contacting them (you want to cancel your account), and provide details like your member ID. You can consider following up with another email if you don’t hear from the company within several business days to make sure they got your initial email.
  • Cancel through Apple Store: If you subscribed to Bumper through the Apple store, you will need to cancel your subscription through Apple. To do so, you'll first need to log into your apple account on your phone. Then, go to the Settings app and click on your name. Afterwards head to the Subscription section and tap your active Bumper subscription. You'll need to follow the prompts to cancel the subscription. In most cases, you'll need to scroll down to find "Cancel Subscription." If you have any issues, you will have to contact Apple directly, not Bumper.

The Bottom Line

You can cancel your Bumper subscription through several methods: online, through the app, by calling customer service, the company’s contact form, live chat, email or the Apple store. Whichever method you use, the process to cancel your subscription is similar. As long as you’re clear why you’re contacting the company and provide all the information it needs to process your request, hopefully the process will be smooth from start to finish.

Once you receive your email confirmation that your subscription is canceled, continue to monitor your account to make sure that you’re not still paying for a Bumper membership.

Even if you no longer have a Bumper membership, it’s still important to monitor your subscriptions regularly. You may be paying for subscriptions that you no longer use, or don’t use as often. Meaning, you’re spending money on something that you’re not getting a lot of value out of. That money could instead be used for other areas in your budget or towards your financial goals.

Even if you pay for subscriptions you use, monitoring them regularly helps you to see how much you’re spending. If the price goes up, for instance, you can take this opportunity to review whether you want to continue paying for the service. Or you can see if you can contact the company directly to negotiate the price to see if you can keep the price you’ve paid previously, or an equally better deal.

Monitoring your subscriptions doesn’t have to take a lot out of your day. You can consider apps that can do much of that for you and even send alerts when something changes to your account. Consider signing up for free tools like the Rocket Money℠ app to help you monitor your subscriptions. This app even has other features to help keep track of your spending and monitor your retirement accounts.
