You joined Crunch Fitness with the best of intentions. For a relatively small monthly fee, you have access to hundreds of well-equipped Crunch gyms and their community-based fitness classes nationwide. It seemed like an especially great way to stay in shape if you travel a lot for work.

But getting out of your Crunch membership can be confusing and/or difficult depending on the type of membership you have — and there are several. Each has its own cancellation policies and fees, commitment periods, and monthly membership fees which are automatically paid out from your bank account.

Fees may appear as debits in your statement identified as one of many variations of the following:

ABC*CRUNCH FITNESS

CRUNCH FIT ABC CLUB FEES PPD ID: 1710602737

ABC*CRUNCH FITNESS 800-6226290 FL

If you’ve lapsed in your training and mentally moved on from Crunch, those fees are still activated, draining money from your account every month, possibly without you even knowing about it. Your unused Crunch membership, along with other monthly subscriptions you don’t use, can take a big bite out of your discretionary income and make it harder to meet the 50/30/20 budget rule

Understanding the details of your Crunch membership dictates how you cancel. This article will tell you how to cancel your Crunch Fitness membership from all the angles.

Cancellation Process

There are several ways to cancel your Crunch Fitness membership, including online, over the phone or in person. Be sure to check your membership agreement to verify your home gym’s cancellation process, as policies can vary by location.

No matter what your method of contact, you should first assemble all the information and documentation you have about your membership, including your home gym’s address, membership agreement, membership barcode, email address associated with the membership and bank account number associated with the agreement.

Know that while there is certainly a way out of your Crunch membership, it can be a little tricky and time-consuming. Because it’s a legal contract — and because, let’s face it, they want you to continue your membership — there may also be annoyances like delays and extra fees before your membership is fully cancelled. Here are a few to look out for:

  • Cancellation fees: In the fine print of your Crunch membership policy, there may be language about fees if you cancel at any time or before a certain number of months or years.
  • Notice period: Many gym memberships require you give notice — typically up to 30 days — before your membership can be officially terminated. This means you could pay up to an extra month after you’ve decided to quit.
  • Written documentation: Sometimes written documentation is required to show your wish to end the membership. Ask for written confirmation that includes the date and your membership number.

Cancel Via Crunch.com

Cancelling Crunch online may be the way you want to go, but weaving your way through the company website can be a little daunting. We take you through the steps below, but know that if your home gym doesn’t accept cancellations over the website, you’ll only be able to submit a “request to cancel” and additional steps (outlined in your membership agreement) will be necessary. It may even suggest you just cancel in person at your home gym (see also below).

  1. Visit https://www.crunch.com/.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Contact” in the bottom right corner.
  3. Select “Contact a Crunch Gym.”
  4. Click “Manage your current membership” and “Continue.”
  5. Input your local Crunch gym’s address and select “Start.”
  6. Select “Cancellation.”
  7. Read and agree to the acknowledgment statement if applicable and select “Next.”
  8. Fill in the required information, including membership barcode, and click “Next.”
  9. Remember, some locations might not offer online cancellation, so check if this option is available for your gym.

Cancel By Phone

Another option is to call your home gym. This should be your first step in cancelling since it might take just a few minutes and you might not have to do anything else.

  1. Find your local Crunch location’s phone number and contact your home gym directly.
  2. Have your member barcode and the email address you signed up with on hand.

Cancel At Your Local Crunch Gym

Depending on your personality, this may be a problematic way to cancel. This is because some gym membership reps can try to talk you out of cancelling. They may get compensated for doing so and can sometimes be stubborn. If you’re a more nonconfrontational person, you might try cancelling online or by phone first.

  1. Visit your home gym.
  2. Tell a front desk associate you’d like to cancel your membership.
  3. Make sure you have as much of your membership documentation as you can to help move things along.

The Bottom Line

If you’re paying a monthly fee for a Crunch Fitness membership you don’t use, you have two options: get back in the gym or cancel the membership now. Cancelling can be as easy as making a phone call, though it helps to have all your membership documentation on hand.
